Paper or Plastic?

Booking Through Thursday

Do you read e-Books?
If so, how? On your computer, or a PDA?
Or are you a paper purist? Why?

- I sometime win an e-books prizes from authors from a email yahoo group list that I joined in. That is the only times I do read them. I use the Adobe PDF format to read e-books. I couldn't afford PDA, although I think it would be wise to get one if I read e-books.

However - I do prefer papers print books. Something about a touch of a paper, it smell and having it near by you, give me the comfort of knowing the books is real. And display it on shelf for keep. :)

What about you? Paper or Plastic?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

A Thank You From Trish

If everyone remember, last Thursday I did a Thursday Thirteen meme about my niece Trish's Graduation Travelogue. If you don't remember or haven't read it then CLICK HERE and it'll take you to Trish Graduation Travelogue.

Trish would like to thanks everyone for the congratulation. It mean so much to her and she appreciate it. It make her happy to know that her aunt, Julia has such a great and wonderful friends out there :) She also like to congrats everyone who have family members/friends who is also (or already did) graduated.

If all work well, she probably will move in with my family and attend college here. This would be fun, since it will make up all the lost times that she and I didn't spent the times together during holidays. I can so imagine we will be watching lot of movies together...again :) But of course, we can't always have too much fun...she need to study after all ;)

Thanks again, everyone for the good wishes and congrats to Trish's Graduation.

Ain't She Sweet? by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

(Contemporary Romance)
4 1/2 stars

Sugar Beth was the daughter of the wealthiest family in Parrish, Mississippi and was also the prettiest and the most popular in high school. But she also made everyone lives a living hell. And even destroyed them. She had everything she could want..but there is one things she didn't get, and it make her jealous enough to want to get even. Even when it hurt them. But then she left town, leaving "the Seawillows" who is her oldest friend very upset.

Colin was an odd highschool teacher that everyone drool over. But Sugar Beth wasn't smitten with him. She accused him of coming on to her, which cause him to get fired and sending him back to his family in England.

A long years have gone by, and now both are back in Parrish, Mississippi. And things have changed. Sugar Beth no longer the spoil rich girl they all remember and she has came back in hope to find her aunt's valuable painting, which no one believe it existed. She need the painting for a good personal reason, and hope to find it. She stayed in the carriage house that her aunt have left for her and try to find a job while she stay in carriage house. But she would never imagine that Colin, a very famous novelist, now owned the Frenchman Bride that Sugar Beth grew up in. She endure the revenge that was plotted against her by Colin, hiring her as his housekeeper. The revenge that he knew all the people would want to be there to see, including Sugar Beth's half sister Winnie.

A sizzling spark began to happen between Sugar Beth and Colin. They're an unlikely couple who does nothing but annoyed each other. But despite Sugar Beth sassy mouth, feisty spirit and strong attitudes Colin couldn't help but fall for her.

You will see characters going through problem issues that needed to be confront and making amend. As each grow to learn about each others, they also learn to love again. And even forgive.

This is my first SEP's non Chicago Star book. And the first I would finish all the way through. I tried Lady Be Good but never finish it because I couldn't get into the book. I even tried Breathing Room, and couldn't finish that one either. I have love all the Chicago Stars series however. They're all great. I'm relief that Ain't She Sweet? keep me reading. There were some sarcastic, snippy humors that made me laughs. There was also lots of anger issues through most of the pages, that could have upset me enough to stop reading it. But it didn't. Somehow I just knew the characters going to redeem themselves. And as long as they do, then I'm okay with the book. I like Susan's writing style. I think I trust Susan Elizabeth Phillips enough to like continue to read her books.

Thursday Thirteen: Edition #15

My Niece Trish's Graduation Travelogue

Trish Graduate 2007

Last week, I didn't do my Thursday Thirteen because I was attending my niece Trish's Graduation. It was a very long day but a sweet and exciting moments. I just can't believe she grown up on me, already! *sniff*. It was only yesterday when I put this tiny baby asleep on my stomach with her legs tuck in and arm stress out on my side. A moments that I would cherish and won't forget. So here is my travelogue to Trish's Graduation 2007

1. Wake up at 9AM to take a shower. Then decided to make a cup of coffee and eat some blueberry bagels, while I sit and check/answers emails for awhile. Since my older sister isn't picking me up until 2:45PM.

2. By the times I finish with my emails, two hours have passed. Yeah I normally get lot of emails from different yahoo reading group. Including personal emails. So it'll be around 11ishPM then. I decided to watch "Days of Our Lives" soap opera TV show at 12PM, while I get dress and put on make-up.

3. A pair of jean and pretty V neck black top with make-up later, it almost 1PM and decided to go check emails again. And Trish was on IMs, so I said hi and let her know we're on our way. Then when I'm done with emails, my sister arrive to pick me up at 2:45PM. But she was hungry, and we decided to dig a quick foods that was in the house and ate for 20 minutes.

4. So we left for New Orleans at 3:07PM , which take about an hour 30 minute drive. My sister showed me a stud diamond earring that she brought for Trish as an graduation present. It was beautiful and stunning. We were singing and dancing along with the radio..all to entertained ourselves *grin*. You should have seen the look we got from people driving by LOL! We talked a little and catch up on what we both were doing lately. We talked about what been going on with our family too.

5. Once we got to New Orleans it was already 4ishPM , we went to Trish's house. Since there was no time to take pictures of Trish in cap and gown, because we decided to take her and Heather (2nd niece) to an early brunch at Semolina, we were rushing everything. In the car, on our way to eat, we gifted Trish the diamond earring. She love it. At the Semonlina, I had a nice chicken pasta pour in with white wine on the foods and cheese. I wish I knew the name of the plates that both my niece had, but I know one of them had shrimps and the other had chicken in their pasta. My sister couldn't make up her mind what to order, so she decided to tried each of our plates LOL

6. So we ate for almost an hour, since Trish was supposedly be at the place where her Graduation ceremony taken place before 5:30PM. And she need to be there to get ready to march in with her class. However we gotten there at 5:45..so we were bit late to get there

7. When we got there, some students were either outside taken pictures in their cap and gown with their friends and family or just talking with them. Trish went up and met one of her friend and decided to go in with her to get herself ready. So my sister, Heather and I decided to just stand outside for awhile to wait on their mother. (we were to met them so that we sit together). My niece Heather, decided to take this opportunity to hugs and yell "hello" to her friends...LOL!

8. But we didn't wait outside too long, because my sister decided she was thirsty, so we went to a small store that was just 15 minute drive from where the ceremony take place. After we buy our drinks we went back and decided to just sit in the parking lot and drink for awhile.

9. Heather cell rang, and it her mother letting her know she be there in 10 minutes. So we decided to go in and wait for them there. We saw a table set up with gifts (so that we can buy for the graduate students. We decided to get Trish a red roses and white teddy bear in an cap and gown that was holding a paper-like diploma in it paw. And it also worn an fake black thin eye glasses. I thought this was sooo Trish *grin*

10. Not 5 minute we got inside the building, Trish/Heather mom walk in. The girls grandmother and their little sister came along too. So we went in to find our seats. I didn't realized how small the room was, and it explain why each students was only allow to invited 10 guests only. The uncle and his girlfriend that Trish invited, came 30 minute later after we were seated.

11. So we waited for what seem like an hour for the ceremony to begin. At 7PM the students were marching in side by side two at time in the room and toward their seats. Heather video the whole ceremony with her camera and cheered, shouted and "whooed" very loud the whole darn times. I think she busted my ears drum LOL! I was searching for Trish, so that I can take pictures. But we couldn't find her anywhere. We thought she will be seating on stage in the front, since she told us she would be. But we found out later, she was seating on the chair below with the rest of her class. So..no cap and gown pictures...again! *sigh*.....

12. When it was time for the students to get their diploma, everyone was cheering, clapping and shouting. And there she was...my Trish...walking on stage to get her diploma. She held onto it while photo were taken by professional photographer. I cried as we stood up, clapped and "whoo" when Trish name was called. Not sure if she heard us, but we were cheering very loud LOL! I was proud of her :)

13. After the ceremony was over, We waited for Trish to come out to hand her the gifts we brought for her. Then Trish's mom decided to take us all out to eat. We went to "AA Buffet". Never been there before but the foods was great. We didn't eat long though because we need to head home. It was getting late. Before we left, my sister and I want to take pictures with the girls. So we did. And then after what seem like a hundred times of hugs, kissing on the cheeks, "I love you" being said and "I'm proud of you Trish" moments, we left. Another long hour and 30 minute drive back home. Sister decided to crash at my house, since she live an hour away from where I live. By the time my head hit the pillow, I pass out to sleep LOL!

Congratulation to my darling Trish, WE ALL LOVE YOU!!! And congrats to all of you who family members or friends who had graduated this year :)

Ice Blue by Anne Stuart

Anne Stuart website

(Romantic Suspense)
5/5 stars

I'm reading Ice Blue with my friend, Melody-click here . She and I always read the "ICE" series together. It always fun! In the past, I have review the second book Cold As Ice of "ICE" books but I posted a comments about Black Ice ......

click here Cold As Ice review/Anne Stuarts

Summer Hawthorne, a museum curator, was given an treasure of sentimental value of an ice-blue ceramic bowl from her beloved Japanese nanny Hana. She had kept it saved in hope that Hana will come back for it. But she died, and Summer loan it to the exclusive museum (where she work)to keep it away from religious charlatan.

But the night of her opening reception at Sansone Museum in Santa Monica Mountain, where only the rich and powerful guests were invited to view the collection of Japanese ceramics, she was kidnapped and put in the back trunk of the car. It wasn't until later that she learn there are people out there who would kill to get their hand on the ice blue ceramic bowl. Even the man Summer had feeling for, Takashi O'Brien.

It was the bowl and a map to a shrine that the Shirosana needs to bring his apocalypse to it final stage. And since Summer's mother and sister didn't work out the way it was planned, they decided to do the next things...get Summer

It was up to Takashi O'Brien, an assassin from the Committee, to stop the global power from mass destruction. His mission was to kill Summer, get the ice blue ceramic bowl away from Shirosana and disappear without anyone knowing he existed. But it get harder as he struggle to keep his emotional feeling for Summer from getting in the way to get his job done. He wonder if he have gone insane.

I thought Taka was very sexy and smart guy. He seem to be very cold with no emotions to anyone...that is until he met Summer. He had humors without trying to be funny. You can tell his feeling for Summer was there, even though he try to control it. I like it that Summer is a smart, strong heroine who is not TSTL and can managed to control her emotions when she face the violence that was put upon her. You'll never see her cry or scream.

We see Taka's young cousin, Reno and Summer's little sister Jilly. I'm hoping for romance between the two, since it was obvious there something between them. And I want to know the answers to why he hate "something". But that is left open for Anne Stuart to decided to write their story. We also see the previous heroes from the "Ice" series, making appearance in Ice Blue as well.

I love it that the hero from Ice Blue is an part Asian American. There not whole lot of books that I have read that show Asian heroes or heroine these days. I'll be lucky if I found some, which I did managed to find *grin*.

Anne Stuart is getting better and better as each "ICE" series books. Her heroes are always VERY dark and emotionless cold-blooded assassin, who always found loves in every unexpected places. I have enjoy most of Anne's heroes and like it that they're bad boy, strong individual who try to put their job first before their emotional feeling toward the heroines. But that the heroines can changed them. The heroes end up getting involved in steamy relationship with the women they don't want to want or much want to love. It not one of those warm fuzzy romance, but it is romance that you surely going to love as you see each couples fight through their feeling and watch their relationship developed while they try to chase or run from the villain. Very intense and very sexy...IMO

Ice Blue is a very exciting book with good non-stop action and well written characters. A few quick spur of the moment but steamy scenes and complex plot. I enjoy the book and highly recommend anyone to read "ICE" series if you not squeamish with ultra dark heroes. I love them all!! .....

Here is the book in order it to be read (I think you can also read it as stand alone-but each characters are seen from previous books)

Bookless

Booking Through Thursday

It happens even to the best readers from time to time… you close the cover on the book you’re reading and discover, to your horror, that there’s nothing else to read. Either there’s nothing in the house, or nothing you’re in the mood for. Just, nothing that “clicks.” What do you do?? How do you get the reading wheels turning again?

- This is the good thing about TBR piles. With the growing piles, you never have to worry about running out of books *grin*. My piles are grouped into many different genres: Romance Suspense, Contemporary Romance, Historical Romance, Erotic Romance, the mainstream, series books...etc. And whatever my moods play, is the one I will chose to read. And if I'm not in the mood for one genre then there is always other genre to try. And it is the good thing when people either raves or spread the "words of the mouths", about a book you would know your TBR piles is going to grow and grow....

Back then, before internet came to my life, I use to stick with only a few authors/books. TBR piles never existed back then. And I had to always constantly worry about what to read next. Or how to get myself get into the reading habit again. And so what I did was to read a very thick and long books so that it would felt like I been reading for month. And not worry about not having any more books to read. But the thick, long books only lasted me about 2 days to finish. I used to read straight through and never stop for any reason except for bathroom/lunch break. I remember that I used to go through days without books and wondering when the next book(s) will be out. That was when I use my TV times to pass those few months until a new book is out.

Thanks goodness to internet and friends! I am never alone as long as people keep on spreading the raves, recommendation and "words of the mouths". My TBR piles will grow. Can't live without TBR piles....Running out of books to read, is a scary things! *grin*

Term Limits by Vince Flynn

(Politicians thriller/mystery) * * * * * stars
The night before the budget was to pass, three Washington's most powerful politicians have been murder, and an unknown assassins delivered a shocking ultimatum to the American government. To set aside petty, partisan politics and restore power to the people. Or there will be held responsible for another murder. The assassins want them to act on their promises that they made and withdraw his budget to help raised the tax and cut down all un-need federal program. But when the president and congressman didn't held up to the ultimatum demand, another murder happened. And now all the congressman are afraid for their life.

Stu Garret, the president's Chief of staff and National Security Advisor tried to keep the crime from being solved because they believe it would help the president get re-elected. So they ignore all the suggestion from Special Agent McMahon, as he tried do everything he can to protect the president and find the assassins. But the Assassins always "know" what the president are doing and try to put a scare on him.

Michael O'Rourke, a first-term Congressman from Minnesota and a former U.S Marine, think he know who the assassins might be. The former Marine. He recognizes the killing techniques that American Special Forces use. But it up to him to uncover the identities and stop the killing.

Director Stansfield of the CIA and his assistant Irene Kennedy, head of counter terrorism work together with Director Roach of the FBI and Special Agent McMahon, to solve the leading crime(these people as well as the other people, would be seen again as the series move along. And you will met Mitch Rapp who is the leading main character of the series). Hopefully they will find the killer(s) before they plan another murder. As the unknown assassins began to uncover, danger isn't far behind.

This is my first book read by Vince Flynn. I have heard about him so many times that I decided to give him a try. WOW, I'm so glad I did. I normally do not like to read politician theme, but this book left me with good impression. There are lot of characters that were very well written, that they seem so believable and human. They play their part so well, that you either want to hate them or like them. But normally, too many characters can also ruin the story if I concentrated on trying to remember their names too much instead of focus on the story. But it wasn't like that at all. I was able to remember who is who. Maybe that because the story was easy and fast pace read. If I put the book down and pick it up again, I didn't have problem remember where I left off or what happen previously. I may or may not have already spoils alot in this review, but I hope I didn't. It was hard not to. But since I like this book, it hard to write review for this one, so I stink at this *LOL*

There a little tiny bit of romance relationship between two people, but it not expanded more. The book has plenty of action and suspense more than romance. But that was good enough for me. Reading Term Limits had me glued into the story and turning the pages(except those time I had to put the book down to watch TV *grin*)

Term Limits was a thrilling suspense with great action pack and great characters. It began with a big bang, and then end in good way. It is a very GOOD well done book! I highly recommend you to read it. Term Limits is the opening to the new series. So read this first before the rest of the other series. If you like the TV show 24 then you will love these series. I will be looking forward to read the rest of this series!

If you like to find more info on these series, check out
Vince Flynn website

The order of Mitch Rapp series:

1. Term of Limit (the opening of the new series)
2. Transfer of Power (the first book to Mitch Rapp series
3. Third Option
4. Separation of Power
5. Executive Power
6. Memorial Day
7. Consent to Kill
8. Act of Treason

Ask Not Where, But Where Not?

Booking Through Thursday

So, judging by last week’s answers, apparently the question I should have been asking was:

Where DON’T you read??

- I can't read in the car. The motions movement make me ills. When I went on road trip with a friend to Maryland 5yrs ago that lasted two days on the road, I was reading but I quit because I was not feeling well. Even though I did eat something earlier that morning before we left, I just felt I as going to pass out. We end up stopping by a small fast restaurant to get me something to eat and drink. My friend seem to think I was not eating enough earlier when we ate at Nora Roberts' son Pizza place. So by the time we were on the road again, I was feeling much better.

Even if the trip lasted for an hour or two, I still get ills reading in the cars. And even if the windows are shaded, I still get ills. Never been on train or bus before, so I weren't know if that would make any different

Even though I always bring plenty of books with me when visiting family/friends, I sometime don't always get the chance to read in their home. Sometime it because there bunches of family (I come from large family) around and it consider rude not to go talk to them. And other times it because I spent so much having fun with them that I forgotten I brought my books. This is what it like when we have our annual family reunion. Well...we use to have one, but now everyone is grown up and there isn't much time for it anymore. Sad, I know.

Other then that, I pretty much read anywhere. Because where I go, my books go :) Happy BTT everyone - hope you have nice Mother's Day weekend!

Rec'd series books/ Susan Mallery: The Buchanans

Today, I'm recommend Susan Mallery's The Buchanans series. I actually won the first two books from one of the yahoo group that I subscribe to. And was excited once I got it in my mailbox. I read both book and really like it. It left me with good impression of the family that I decided to buy the third book sizzling (which came out in Jan. 2007) on my own. I will pick up the next book Tempting in July 2007. What I like about the series is that they are funny, sexy, charming, heartwarming and hot. It make you laugh and cry. And you will love the family as much as I do too. The men are very hot and you will love them. From what I read, I like the interaction with each characters to one another (yes even when they are crazy people) One of the main things I like to see in my reading. And humors AND foods are involved in the stories of the books too. *grin*.

The Buchanans series, is about a family, live in city of Seattle, who has and owns a number of restaurants that built the family empire. Each family member are unique, dynamic and full of depth. As their stories are told, they will go through danger, mystery and romance.

Here is the order of The Buchanans series should be read:

Delicious (February 2006) – Cal’s book
Irresistible (July 2006) – Walker’s book
Sizzling (January 2007) – Reid’s book
Tempting (July 2007) – Dani’s book

And if you like to find more info on The Buchanans Family Go over to Susan Mallery website. You might want to browse around for her backlist of her other work as well :)

Rec'd trilogy books/ Sandy Blair: Castle Blackstone series

Sandy Blair website

The Castle Blackstone series in order:

1. A Man in a Kilt
2. A Rogue in a Kilt
3. A Thief in a Kilt
4. A Warrior in a Kilt(unknown release date)

Sandy Blair is one of the Scottish historical author who always feature great Highlander alpha heroes with a paranormal twist! each of the The Castle Blackstone series books had humors that would make you laugh through out the pages. There is balance of actions, humors, excitement and adventure. She can take two likable characters together and make it work. The characters would pull to your heart string and make you love them. Their passion and the journey they travel to...would lead you to a wonderful place of bless.

And all these things I said above, are the reason why I like her books *grin*. I was recommend this book from a friend who love historical books. I delay reading The Castle Blackstone series because it not my cup of teas anymore. Yes, I admit it. There are others historicals writer that I still read, but just won't pick up a "new author to me" anymore. Unless words of mouths buzz about an authors that might change my mind on their books. But after a years of my friend nagging *grin*, I decided to give Sandy Blair a go..and I'm so glad I read it. The series is good.

She also have two non-Kilt book that are good too, which is stand alone. They are:

1. How to Marry a Duke(anthology PB Feb. 2005 released)
2. A Highlander for Christmas(PB release in Oct. 2, 2007)

Sandy Blair is the author to keep an eyes on. Don't miss it! I recommend you to read it. You can always count on her to make you laugh, smile and love them. I know I did.

Yes - I don't read lot of historical anymore since it normally not my cup of tea. But some historical books I do continue to read, because I enjoy them. Sandy Blair is one of them. She is a wonderful, delightful and has a warm sense of humors. Very generous to heart woman. Make sure you stop by her website (see above link), take look around, read her books and email her to say hello :)

R.I.P

Booking Through Thursday

No, not THAT kind of R.I.P.

Reading. In. Public.

Do you do it? Why or why not?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

- Of course I read in public. Anywhere I go, the books go with me *grin*. When I have to wait in a line, books will keep me company while I wait for my turn to purchase my products. Or when I have to wait for someone in the "waiting room", so that the family members can go in and for a personal check up appointment, then I will sit and read to pass the time. And when the sun is nice and warm, I will read outside in public to enjoy that weather.

So yes I will read in public :)

Thursday Thirteen: Edition #13

Things to Look Forward to in May

1. This weekend, a friend invited me to carnival at church play ground. Her church is trying to make money for charity cause for the church project improvement. So it should be fun!

2. In May my darling niece Trish will be graduating this year. She is excited about this, because she waited for long time to get out of highschool. I'm going to take plenty of pictures and embarrassed her in anyway that I can, just because I can cry LOL! If I can managed to load my pictures into my computer (which I been having trouble with), and if am not too shy, then I share it here at my blog :)

3. But before she can get ready for graduation, she just recently went to her Senior Prom. She worn a long white dress, bare to the shoulder and little of sparkle embellishment around the stomach. Her hair was put down and curled. She promise to sent me some pictures in the mail. She said that the dress is very similar to what Hillary Duffy worn in the movie "The Prince and I" (I hope that is the title). So once I get it, if am not too shy, then I share it here at my blog :)

4. Then Mother's Day is approaching. But on that same day, May 13 our church is also celebrating "Parish Community Appreciation Day". So we be celebrating for both holiday at our church ground eating crawfish and other grilling foods.

5. Then there will be a communion ceremony for my friend's son, who called me aunt. When he was born, he changed my terrible life into good life. Since then I own it to him. He is the greatest thing that ever happen in my life. The ceremony will happen next week on Sunday of Mother's Day. So now I don't know which one I'm attending. Maybe both if the times are different.

6. My mother's god-daughter is graduation on May 19. I knew her when she was a baby. Since then, it been a while when I last seen her. She is going to major in medicine. It would be nice to see her again, and all grown up.

7. Then a friend's birthday is coming in May. Usually I always go out to buy something for her or we will go out to celebrate. But since she move, it would be sorta hard to go see her. Maybe I mail a package for her :)

8. Then I'm hoping *cross finger* to mail out some packages that I promises to my friends but kept delaying them. I have bookmakers, books, video tape(record some TV shows) to sent out. I hope they'll be patience with me, or else I be murder by them LOL!

9. Then there Netflix. I'm always excited when my movies are shipped to my mailbox. The movies that on top of my queues list are: The Pursuit of Happyness, Blood Diamond, Eragon, Charlotte's Web, Everyone's Hero, Rambo:First Blood (yes I know this is an old movie, but I love Rambo and always repeatedly watch it over and over *grin*), La Femme Nikita:Season 1 (I seen this show in mid season and really love it. I wasn't able to watch the whole ending season because all of the sudden the show disappear. And I have no idea if it was cancel or not. So I decided to start from the beginning from season 1), Numb3rs(this is TV show that I never watch.) and to name a few....

10. I hate it when my favorite TV show will end it final season soon. Then we would have to wait until the next fall to see the next new season. But I'm really looking forward to see what happen next this May on "Lost", "ER" (there will be wedding!), "Heroes", "24" and so on.

11. Catching up on my reading. I spent so much time watching TV that I barely read much. If it wasn't for TV then I would have read more quicker. But each months, I find I can only managed to read 4 or 5 books. So I'm looking forward to read more books in May

12. For the school to end for the kids, and then I'll be able to visit my nieces often during the summer. School is almost over, and pretty soon the kids is going to raid the house( not what I'm looking forward to LOL) but it always fun to hang out with them :)

13. Parent planning to visit my aunt and her family in Germany. I think they leaving on the earliest June. This is the same aunt who came down to my home town to visit us about 5yrs ago. They stay for a month and 2 half. This was also the first time I ever met her. I learned later that she use to babysit me when I was little. I don't recall that at all LOL. But we had great time with her and the family. Not sure if I'm coming, but if I do...I let you know, Darla *grin*.

*phew!* Lots of things to do this May! Wish me luck to stay alive LOL! What about you? What thing(s) are you looking forward to in May?
