Presents!

Booking Through Thursday

So, it’s Deb birthday today. (Please, no applause - Deb said) But it’s inspiring today’s question –

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

I always treasure many books I got as presents, no matter the occasion it is. Over the years, my friends who know me very well would buy me books as gift. Books that they know I loved. But most of the books are sent to me because friends would ask and I will request them the book titles. I treasure their gifts and thanks them.

It's the unexpected books that came to me that hold MORE special meaning for me. For example: I do recall my friend Darla, who brought me Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh for my birthday. That came to be a surprise to me, since I wasn't expecting it. It show me how much I value her friendship for doing something like this. One of my sister had came down to visit us for a month one year and took me to see Suzanne Brockmann's book signing in New Orleans, as a early birthday present for me. I got some personalized signed book #6 and book #7. And even Over the Edge, Bodyguard and Heart Throb. It was unexpected for my sister to come visit and take me to Suz book signing.

But I think the best unexpected and memorable book that was given to me was when my sister order me a personalized book online and had it delivery to my house. Because it was special order to have it deliver to me on Christmas day, I was waken my mom standing by my bed with a medium size box in her hand. When I saw the box, I grab for it and...oops, dropped the box on my lap. It was heavy. I was confuse at first and then got all curious of who the mysterious sender was, since her name wasn't on the return address. I open it and there in front of my eyes was A Breath of Snow and Ashes written by Diana Gabaldon!!!!! The author is one of my favorite author. Even though I was still groggy from my sleep, my excitement got the best of me. After a awhile, when I calm down for minute - I started to cry in tears...thinking of my wonderful sister who live far far distance from us :) It was the best unexpected Christmas I ever had! And the book remain the most memorable and special to me.

What about you? Was there any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present?
