Why Buy?

Booking Through Thursday

I’ve asked, in the past, about whether you more often buy your books, or get them from libraries. What I want to know today, is, WHY BUY?

Even if you are a die-hard fan of the public library system, I’m betting you have at least ONE permanent resident of your bookshelves in your house. I’m betting that no real book-lover can go through life without owning at least one book. So … why that one? What made you buy the books that you actually own, even though your usual preference is to borrow and return them?

If you usually buy your books, tell me why. Why buy instead of borrow? Why shell out your hard-earned dollars for something you could get for free?

I usually always buy my books, although I do borrow books from the library sometime. I buy the books that I own because it's from my favorite authors. And I want to be able to keep my favorite books to re-read them again when ever I have the chance to. I love going back and re-reading old favorite and visiting old "friends" again. And I buy *that* books because it part of an on going series. I love reading series books too! And I also buy books because I can't wait to read it..I don't want to wait forever to find out what happen next. Or wanting to know what exciting stories authors have for me to read. And library tend to take forever, until it my turn in line to get the newest books. I'm not patience person when it come to books that I've been waiting for and I'm looking forward to read it. And why buy instead of getting it for free from library? Simple, because I'm a reader, I love books and I want to show it! The books sitting on my bookshelves is prove ;)

However, the only time I have to borrow books from the library is because it's either the author is "new to me authors" or because I want to wait until the Hardcover book reissues into Paperback format ( that is, if am patience enough to wait LOL!). That when I buy the book. A "new to me authors", I tend to want to see what their books is all about. And if whether their books be worth buying the next time I see it on the shelves of the bookstore. Sometime what made me buy *that* book is because many people talk about it, all over the places. And I want to know what it's all about. And sometime *that books end up in my keeper.

This probably doesn't answer the questions that much, or maybe it does. Or maybe am just blahing...*shrug* teehehe. What about you? Why buy *that* books on your shelf or borrow from the library instead?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

My thoughts were pretty much the same as yours! I love having my favourites there to re-read. It can be really frustrating waiting for the library to get a book when you know it's in the stores!

I enjoy reading your answers, Julia!

I share the same thoughts with you although I can't say the same about finding new authors books in our library. SIGH~~

I aim to have all of Nora Roberts books one day. Right now, I have all her trilogies, but not the standalone ones. :)

It'a a good idea to test out new authors by using the library. Here's my answer: http://bookcritiques.blogspot.com/

I love being able to go back and grab a book over and over again without worrying if someone else is reading it. I never leave a bookstore without at least one book.

Gautami - Those three books (or authors) must be keeper, I may have to go search it and see if I ever read it (or them) as kid.

Jennifer - It is always great to have favorite books around to read it in future too, where we can pass these books down to our kids :) And you right, it is frustrating to wait in line from library when we can just get it right there in the store.

Alice - Well...when an authors is recommend to me, who is "new to me authors", I tend to go library and read it to see if the books be worth buying next time instead of going through library route. And you know what? Who know, maybe there will be Nora Roberts stand alone books arriving at your door soon ;)

Smilingsal - That exactly my thoughts!

Beth - Thanks for understanding. I tend to blab all the times, not sure what am saying for the most of it ;)

RoseAnn - I like to own my books too. And I agree, that the books mean something...to me too. I just love re-reading old favorites..especially favorite quotes too.

Mary Beth - Me too, going back to read the books over and repeatdly, just show how much that books is being loves :)

Thanks everyone for visiting my blog and commenting. I wish everyone have a great day!
