Fantasy and Sci-Fic

Booking Through Thursday

One of my favorite sci-fi authors (Sharon Lee) has declared June 23rd Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers Day.

As she puts it:

So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day, perhaps, to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how written science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.

So … what might you do on the 23rd to celebrate? Do you even read fantasy/sci-fi? Why? Why not?

~ I don't read whole lot of fantasy or sci-fic books. But when there is a good raves about it, I might be tempted to read them. Like Harry Potters series for example. But to watch fantasy/sci-fic from TV show series or movies, is whole different thing to me. I DO watch them. For example, I have seen all the movies from Lord of the Ring series (and it was awesome!), but couldn't finish reading it from the books. And I've seen all the movie up to date of Harry Potter (awesome!), but haven't finish reading book 3 or 4. I can't really explain it but that just me. *shrug* maybe I'm just weird *LOL*

I'm not sure what I will do on June 23, to celebrate this event. I might consider reading a fantasy books. There some series I have not finish yet and I need to. Or I might changed my mind, *shrug* who know.

What about you? What might you do on 23rd to celebrate fantasy/sci-fic event?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

I haven't finished the HP series too! But I'd watched all the movies to-date. I can't wait for the next one to be released in July! :D

I only have one more HP book to go, Deathly Hollows, of course... June 23 is the day before my daughter's birthday, so I'll probably be getting ready for that.

Next Stop, Fantasyland! is my BTT :-)

I haven't read a single Harry Potter book either. But I've watched all the movies multiple times. Can't wait for the next one to release :)

I've never felt satisfied with any harry Potter books although I enjoy the books (up to books 5...less in book 6 and 7) but blown away by all LOTR movies

Honestly, I though HP entertaining, but not great by any means. Too cutesy and patronizing, especially when compared to Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising Sequence. But whatever gets people reading ... !

I never read any of the HP's. I tried to watch one of the movies, but it didn't interest me.

I've never heard of Sharon Lee, and there have been 2 mentions of her work already!

Before I read the first Harry Potter my friend warned me to approach it as a children's book, and not read it from an adult's perspective. I'm glad she told me that, or I might not have continued beyond the first few chapters. I now love the whole series, and it inspired me to re-visit other children's books.

Hi Julia! I'm going to read a fantasy book and then review it on June 23. I hope I'll be able to make it in good time. :)

To be fair, LOTR is considered a tough read.

I agree with anothercookiecrumbles on LOTR. It's a great book but it's somewhat hard to read. Which what made Harry Potter interesting for me, not that you should compare one to the other hehe.

My suggestion would be to check out the children's section for more awesome fantasy stories. People often belittle children's books because of the misconception that they're simple stories. You'll be surprised.

Here is mine :)

I read a lot of sci fi short fiction, so chances are high I'll be reading something on that day. My first time on this meme. Enjoying it so far.
