Musing Mondays
Early Reading

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about early reading…

Do you remember how you developed a love for reading? Was it from a particular person, or person(s)? Do you remember any books that you read, or were read to you, as a young child? (question courtesy of Diane)

- I'm not sure when or how I developed a love for reading. I always wonder if it was when my parents use to buy me books all the times when I was kid. Or maybe when teachers read books to their student during "Reading Times" break. Or maybe my school had those Book Festival Fair, where student go to library and buy books. Whatever or whenever it was...I am thankful. It just seem I've been reading all of my life.

My parent never read books to me, because at the times they didn't know much English. The only people that ever read to me, when I was a young kid, was my teachers. I do recall them reading to their students, while everyone sit on the carpet floor and listen. I love it when we have those times because usually those are the quiet time when we can listen and learn about some great stories and authors. And also let kids play with my long hair *grin* *chuckle*. I had my teachers from kindergartens through 2nd grade, reading to their students. Until I had my 3rd grade teacher who gave us "Reading times", which is when every students get to chose a book from the shelves and sit on their favorite spot to read their books. We even had our librarian reading books for the class too.

I don't remember what books were read to us/me but I do remember my favorite first childhood book. Lot came from The Little Golden Books, such as: "The Poky Little Puppy", "Goodnight, Little Bear", and all the Disney books. Than I discover "Harold and the Purple Crayon" and love it. Growing up from teenagers to now, I read teenager's books from Sweet Valley High, The Babysitter Club..etc. Than there is "Little House on Prairie" and "Anne of the Green Gable".

And now that I'm adult, I continue to read and have the love for reading :)

What about you? When did you developed a love for reading?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks

Parents do play a very important role when it comes to reading. Even though they didn't read to you, at least they bought you books all the time. That must've really contributed a lot to your love for reading.

It did for me too :)

I love Book Festivals, especially if they are held in the schools. I remember there was once a book fair in my primary school and I didn't have sufficient money to pay for the book I want, a teacher offered to pay for the book first. I was soooo grateful for her kind gesture!

I think good reading habit should cultivate from the young. :)

I love book exhibitions at school and I remembered always using my pocket money to buy them. Hehe...

Enid Blyton's Famous Five ignited my passion for reading. But if I remembered correctly, my parents got me started on the Peter and Jane series. Teeheee!

Arieldalloway - You're right. My parent did play important role in my reading, when they buy me books all the time. If it wasn't them pushing me to read, my English would have not be as good :)

Melody - I love Festival Books Fair, in school too. I remember how I get so excited when I knew it that time to buy books again *grin*

Alice - Hmm, do I remember Enid Blyton's Famous Five? I can't recall. It wonderful that your parent got you started into reading with Peter and Jane series :)

Sorry, that I response to this post way late. I thought I already did, but apprantely I didn't. I'm way behind on my blog - so please forgive me :)
