I chose One Scream Away by Kate Brady. I know I'm late in posting my pick for July TBR Challenge and doing review of the book. But it's never too late to post it :) I've been trying to catch up on books currently read, and hope to post my reviews on the other books I delay drafting/posting. Leaving clues for each victims to Beth, scaring her to death. As little piece of puzzles come together, a intense unexpected discovery is reveal behind Chevy's murders spree. Would Neil be able to stop this mad man from killing more women and protect Beth before Chevy get to her?

What to say about this book. First let me say that I started reading the book last month of July. I never finish it, since I was also reading two other books at same time (which I still have not finish yet *sigh*). So I figure I will finish it for the August reading instead. It took me awhile to finish it, not because it wasn't a good book. But because I've been too busy with other stuff with life in general.

From the first few chapters, I wasn't sure how I going to feel about the book at first because I kept thinking in my head "This doesn't seem too scary enough to leave light on at night", as readers have exclaim it was to be. Yes there is some gruesome graphic scenes, but they were not overly disturbing. It does leave you to imagine the violence the victims endure when they are killed. However I think I like the thrilling of cat and mouse confrontations game and the many surprises twist and turn, that I think would leave the reader to keep turning the pages to find out what happen next. We knew who the villain is, but to see what going through his mind as he plan his killing spree, was intense and interesting. Once you discover bits and pieces of his pasts, you would then begin to understand why he done it. In fact I thought he was very strong, smart and clever serial killer. Half way through the middle of the book, I was surprises with what I've learn about not only with Chevy but what happen with Beth and Neil in their past life before they met. And in somewhat way, you can't help but feel sorry for all three people. I think the majority of the book is center more in the suspense than it is with romance. There is romance but only about less than 10% of romance in them. But whatever romance is shown, has it special moments too. I thought that the heroine and hero were strong individual who give enough to hold the story together, even though it may seem like the romance could be done without. Anyone who know me, would know that I want to have 50% of romance and 50% of suspense in books for me to enjoy it. But the plot entertained me enough and the characters kept the story interesting. After passing through right in the middle of the book, it got very interesting! The first chapters grab me from the first pages until I reach the end. And even though I didn't think the book scared me enough, the book itself was still good!

One Scream Away was a plot driven, thrilling, tense, suspenseful and great characters casting. The book kept me turning the pages and on my toes.For a first time author's debut novel, this is a well written good book with good plot, I love it!

I chose No Control by Shannon K. Butcher. This book was published in 2008 but I start reading it this year for this challenge. The first book of Shannon's romance suspense, No Regrets, was published last year in 2007 and it was an interesting read. Sorry that I posted this review late, as I was trying to finish reading it before I can post it for the TBR Challenge of May. Now that it is June, it never too late to post it :)

End Book Synopsis

My thoughts: One thing I can say about the Lana is that she really started to bother me when she doesn't trust the hero enough to tell him of the secret that she is hiding that is causing all this danger from happening. It driving me nut! I do understand that she was torture and because of that, it causes her not to trust anyone. I felt her pain and the emotion as I was reading the scenes where she was torture. And I can't imagine what that like but going through all that, I can imagine it was painful, scary and you think this be the end of your life. But I think it made her to become stronger and smart person later. But even for a stronger and smart person, she can be dense sometime when she can not see that Caleb, the hero, can help her. The need to ignore that she know something about the Swarm, just to protect and keep her family, friends and Caleb safe is understandable. But having help, can end all these things more faster. And she can't forget that Caleb is Delta Force operative. Now saying that, I do like it that Lana is strong too. And I can tell how much she had changed as she try to get her life back together again.

I felt Caleb emotion as he watch Lana being tortured. It was the hardest thing he ever had to do, at same time he going undercover and couldn't do nothing. It was hard for me too. You can tell he was feeling guilty and stay by her side while she was in the hospital, after he and his team were able to take down most of the Swarm. He kept tab of her over the years, and it been 18 months later when he come to see her again. To tell her she might be in danger again. He also tell her she need to be guard and protected. But she was reluctance to have him around and he didn't blame her for that. He suffer for what happen in the past and not able to do anything about it until it almost too late (the poor guy!), but he is tough guy and hope to have second chance to amend. And he won't leave her unguarded and this time he will stay to protect her. Even no matter how many times she tried to avoid him or the intimacy between them.

The emotions that both of them have been through was not easy to forget. Their romance were rocky and it took longer for them to finally feel and see that they love each other. The chemistry between them were very steamy and emotionally hot! You can see fire between them. They were the couple that meant to be together. They wasn't weak but strong and tough.

It was also nice to see the team of Delta Force operative. We get a hint to see each characters and their personality. And as I understood it, Grant story is from book #3 No Escape . I'm happy to hear this because I knew I want to know more about Grant as soon as he enter the story *grin*. The interaction between Caleb and Grant was interesting. I laugh couple times when they are chanting together. But I also want to know more about Jack too ;) I can't wait to read Grant story!

I almost gave this a 4.75 stars but few pages to the ending, was amazing and excited. The action and everything. And Lana redeem herself for me. Well I mean there was nothing wrong with her and it not that she need to redeem... but still... So anyway, I changed the grade :)

No Control is a very in depth writing and characters driven. An exciting non stop action pack. Like-able characters and good plot. It a must read book! Shannon K Butcher is a wonderful writer who grab me and kept me interested from the first chapter until the the end of the book. I definitely be reading more of her romance suspense books!

I notice that the next romance suspense book Love You To Death is coming out soon, in October 2009! I wonder if this a part of the last 3 books or a newer series book.

It been almost a long times, since I didn't post my TBR Challenge for the last two months: February and March. I didn't do it because I was so busy trying to get more reading done to add to my track record of books I have read for March. Sadly, that didn't help because I end up just reading only 3 books!

I have lot of books that is new to me authors, those whose I NEVER read before. Some were recent brought and add to my TBR pile, while other were in my TBR pile for almost over 3 years ago. So I took all the books whose authors I never read before and stacked them up into it own pile. Trying to chose which books to read for the April Challenge. I chose A New Attitude by Charlotte Hughes. Because the cover has a shoe and box on it. I had this not too long, maybe last year. I think I pick this book off the shelve because I read the back blurb and inside the first page that the book will be funny. Every now and then I like to read a laugh out loud books. The first book cover happen to be the reprint cover. And that is the book that I got. But the original book cover was this one click here. Read my thoughts below......

At first I wasn't sure if I'm going to like this book because of the background history of the main heroine and what happen to her at the beginning of the chapters. But then as I kept on reading, not only did she grew on me, but all the other characters did too. I thought they were "family", even though they are friends. And part of me feel like they were my family too. From the first time I was introduced to each characters until I learn lot about them. I love that they were there for each other and very supportive. They're generous with their neighbor and was given a second chance to redeem themselves. But even though I do enjoy the book, I did cringed sometime in part because of religious background of one character.

Sam was the next door neighbor who fell in love with Marilee when they were in high school but just never had the gut to ask her out, since she was dating one of the most popular football player, Grady. When she got married to Grady, after graduation, Sam had to look after his mother when his dad died. Later he moved away from home and got married. But he came back to Chickpea, South Carolina when his grandmother tell him that she might go blind and lost her memory. Afraid she won't be able to take care of herself, he moved in with her. Seeing Marilee again stirred up old memories and new loves.

The attracting between them are there but the relationship development were sorta slow, IMO. It took a while - a long pages - until you actually see them "get to it". And even though it slow, it still interesting to watch them interacted and fall in love.

There were some scenes that happen that I didn't think have anything to do with the story. So everything bad that happen, got solved very quickly and it make me think..."uh"? But then it made me came to conclusion that maybe that scenes was used in there was to teach all 3 characters a lesson for their personal problem...*shrug*.

A New Attitude is about starting over, renew yourself and second chance. It's fresh, fun and charming. You will laugh at some and then be sad the next. You will love the friendship that these women have for each others, a well - meaning of being family too. You will like them! I know I did!

It enjoyable read, and I like it. I think you will like it too :)

I chose See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson. I know it had lips on it but it have no pictures of models or scenery either *grin*. I surely know that December 2008 have passed by already. But it never too late to post it. This book have been in my TBR pile since last year or two years ago, right after someone recommend me to read the others books. See my review below..

The beginning of the chapters caught my attention to the pages and kept me reading. I love the romance between Jane and Luc. I love how he became attracted to her even though she is not beautiful or model like as he is normally prefer in his women. She just plain Jane. I love how he pay attention to the details of Jane. But it wasn't physically attraction until later. I also love that Jane has two different side of layer in her. And doesn't change who she is. She is strong, spunky, tough and can talk trash with the best of them! I like her interaction with the team. And that when she know how to get things she want done, she fight for it without whine. I like that she try to get the team to accepted her too. His little sister were likable and I feel sad what she had to go through and depend on Luc to take care of her. The relationship between Luc and his little sister, were complicated but yet understandable. Because he is used to being the only child and never had to be responsible for little girls before. He is used to having women fallen for him and dating. Now he was trying to stay low from all that and Jane have changed him too. I know sometime I want to bang his head but I couldn't help but like him. I thought that the ending was bit too forgiven, but at lease there HEA :)

See Jane Score was It's a very well-written, entertaining story. Like able characters. Hockey funny scenes in the book that made me laugh and sad part that make you feel for the characters.

Grade: 4 1/2 stars

First let me say that I was supposed to be reading Eye of the Storm for the TBR Challenge for November 2008, which is the challenge I've been doing for a year now -- I think. We call it TBR Challenge of the Month. But I've been busy, at the times, trying to reach my 50th books for the 50 Challenge Books - to read 50 books by the end of the year. So I waited for a awhile to read this book. And now, I'm playing catch up. Not only didn't I do the TBR Challenge for November, I also didn't do the TBR Challenge for December. And now, we have the TBR Challenge for January of 2009 too. So I will be catching up doing all three, I hope to do it in times before the end of January.

Here are my thoughts/review on Eye of the Storm for November Challenge of the Month.

I really enjoy the book. It was lot of non stop action from first page to the last. A edge of your seat action with exciting adventure. Both main characters were strong, trying to keep themselves safe at same time trying to find out who the shooter were, until the end. I like that they were able to focus on the keeping themselves alive from everything that happen, even though the chemistry and the love they have between each other are still there. And the divorce paper have only been signed few days ago, but the ink have not dried yet. So it was interesting to see how they reacted when they interacted with each other. I think reader will love Simone, as she is strong heroine who got your back. Simone is comprehend in how she competent with her skills to know what do in bad situation. Reese try to take it all in, when he learn of Simone secret past. Everything changed when he discover the life he had with Simone was lied. But one thing that hadn't changed, for sure is that he still in love with Simone. I also like Martin who was the smart brother and how he was able to handle the situation between his brother Reese and Simone divorce. And then become "help" through all the danger shooting at them :)

It was a fast read and obvious to find out who killer was. But it was enjoyment, exciting and at same time..romantic too. It well written, well written in depth. The story flow really smoothly. I enjoy it and I think you will too!

I'm going to buy more of Dee Davis's books and hope the next one is as good as Eye of the Storm

I chose Chain Reaction by Dee Davis. It been in my TBR pile since last year. Here is the blurb from the back of the book.

At first, even though the first few chapters went right to the action, the reading for me was a tad bit slow. But then pick up and it gotten better. I don't think the reason was because of the book, but that I've been busy and the mood was hard to get into of the book when my mind isn't focus on it. I really did enjoy knowing the main two characters, Mia and Nick. and it was great to get some background of them to get sense of who they are and the reason why Nick set to help Mia from the bad guys. Mia was strong person and smart. And there were sexual tension and chemistry between them. It was a breathtaking-edge of the seat action from the first go and through out the book, great plot twist and dialog. Enjoy it!

This is the first time I ever read Dee Davis' book and I know I will be reading more :)

I chose Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Actually, this wasn't in my TBR pile. I picked it from the library - it didn't occur to me that the book match the challenge until I finish the book. I have been a fan of her Chicago Star series, and enjoy reading them. But in the last few years I've tried her stand alone (non Chicago stars books) and after reading three books, just couldn't get into it. But if it wasn't for the Chicago series, I weren't give the stand alone a another chance. I'm happy to say that Ain't She Sweet and Kiss an Angel (two stand alone book) are both great read. I enjoy it!

When Daisy Devereaux's mother, an high famous fashion model, passed away - she was left to grief on her own. Due to her depression and in order for her to cope, she went out on shopping spree. And when she used up all her credits, she kept on shopping until she was given a warrant to be arrested for financial ruin and jail times. Realizing her mistake, she ask her father for help. But since they never got along together too well and because he decided it times for her to grow up and clean her act together, he declined her help. But he made deal with her: He arranged her to be married to the man of his choosing. And if she stay married for six months then he will help pay her debts and even set her up a financially for life. And if she doesn't agree, then she can face her future jail time. But his real intention was to teach her a lesson in survival.

Alex Markov, is a mysterious guy who is full of secrets. He kept his life private and away from the others. When he was arranged to be married to Daisy, he didn't like the idea of it. The only reason he agree is because he owe it to Daisy's father Max Devereaux a favor that Max had done for him a long time ago. But he couldn't help but think Daisy is an airhead and only cares about her vanity and no one else. he decided that maybe she be interesting to tag along with him.

Daisy was eager to see her new home, only to discover that they've arrived in a circus! Turn out that her husband is traveling circus manager and is currently living in a messy trailer. Daisy is disgusted with it and couldn't imagine herself living there. What happen next, is full of surprises as she discover her husband secrets history and try to adjust to her life in the circus world.

Kiss An Angel is a pleasant, light, funny romp, romantic read. It the story of surviving, loves, trust and compassion. Great characters and lovable animals.

I got to admit that at first I was not happy to find that the story revolved around in the circus. But as I kept reading, I was surprise to find the story was interesting! There so much depth in the story and it is a deep romantically and emotional. I love the interaction between the two main characters and thought they're wonderful even if they had their fault. I truly love and enjoy the book. And I highly recommend anyone to read it :)

I chose Thunderstruck by Roxanne St. Claire. Even though the book end the pages at 256, the story of the book itself ended at 245 pages (not counting promo *grin*). This would be the first time I read Roxanne's non Bullet Catcher series (<~~~ I'm HUGE fan of this series! I recommend it!). So I wasn't sure what to expect. I know nothing about car racing in NASCAR except that they race against other. But usually I tend to enjoyed books that I know nothing about (car, bodyguard, cop..etc). Some entertain me and other just doesn't. What interesting about Thunderstruck is that Roxanne show knowledgeable about the sport of NASCAR and it showed in the book and the story line of this book.

Shelby Jackson, the co-owner of the Thunder Racing, was shocked when her grandfather announced that he retiring and want to sell half of his share of Thunder Racing to famous soccer star Mick Churchill. Because he know nothing about NASCAR car racing, she refuse to give in and share. But Mick has the media savvy and team building skills, so the team need him. Even Shelby weren't admit it that Mick is just what Thunder Racing need for her team. Shelby wasn't sure if Mick would wreck havoc into her life, but she know that there is chemistry between them that she can't hide.

Thunderstruck was a fast pace read with exciting roar of car racing through the pages. It detailed and the heroes is likable. I would have like Shelby more if she wasn't so quick to judge if she give someone a chance. Her hot temper and stubbornness sometime annoyed me. But then seeing on her side, I can understand her reason to refuse outsider to shared the family owned property. Beside that, I enjoy what I've read. Pick up the book, you will enjoy it :)

I said earlier that I'm big fan of Bullet Catcher series. I highly recommend it. It a good dose of romance and suspense mixed in together and action :) If you click the link that said "Roxanne St. Claire Website" you can get the list of the series in order :)

I chose Bodyguard of Lies by Robert Doherty. Robert Doherty is covert name of Bob Mayer who is one of the USA Today Bestselling author in both fiction and non fiction books. The only books I've read under Bob Mayer is his two collaborations books with Jennifer Crusie (a very good book!). This is the first time I read book under Robert Doherty, it won't be my last :)

Neeley was the lover and protegee of Gant Anthony, a Cellar operative. After his death, Neeley was trying to get her life back together when she came upon a mystery that Gant have always held close but never told her about. Knowing nothing about Gant past, except for his family that he have told her a little about, she went to follow Gant instruction from a note that he wrote and kept in locker before his death - to find two person: John Masterson and his wife Hannah. With everything Gant taught her, she put her training and skill to good use to find them.

Hannah Masterson was devastated and angry when she discover her husband, John simply disappears leaving her nothing to her name. She tried to hide it and pretend nothing was wrong in their marriage from his circle of friends but rumors spread fast then she expected. But when she met Neeley, things start to change her life.

When Neeley and Hannah met, they soon realized that the men in their lives share a dangerous secret. A secret that even one of the most powerful people would kill to keep safe and protect. But what most frighting discovery is not only are they involved in web of lies, intrigue and betrayal but they found out that The Cellar is involved too. Bodyguard of Lies was a heart-racing and non stopping action. The two main characters, Neeley and Hannah, were like Thelma and Louise in action a very well smart and strong heroines. And a good twist and turn. The reading pace keep the story moving and you just can't put it down. I truly enjoy it :)

There is second book title Lost Girls which came out on August 2007 of last year.

I chose to read Chasing Stanley by Deirdre Martin. Yes I know that there is no animals in it title, however "Stanley" in the title - happen to be the name of a dog. So I thought this is perfect for this challenge *grin*. This book is the 6th book of the New York Blades Hockey series. I've been following the book in order and enjoy reading them all. I like reading Deirdre Martin's hockey books

Jason Mitchell, a professional hockey player, was traded to go to the team of his dream - The New York Blades. He took his Newf dog along but a problem arise when his dog couldn't adjust to New York city life to well. Than he met Delilah and thought she was god sent to help him train his dog, Stanley.

Delilah Gould, a professional dog trainer, decided to help when she see a dog disobeying orders from it owner. More over, she thought the owner need to be trained too, because he need to be taught some few trick on his dog. They made schedule to trained Stanley before she can boarded him. And from there, is when their romance started.

Jason hope to score and win the big time Stanley Cup, for New York Blades third win. But for now, he trying to take it all in that he is now playing for Blades team. He would make his stay in New York all worth awhile. But it become harder for Jason to do well because his twin brother who is his rival team, is playing for the Jersey hockey team. And that he I've been practice not only his game but his dog as well. Would he be able to score his winning for New York Blades third Stanley Cup and the woman he fallen in love with, whose tamed his dog?

Chasing Stanley is a delightful read with wonderful characters. It witty, charming and fast pace reading. You can see Delilah over come her shyness and struggles with social anxiety. And you can feel Jason trying his best to make his dream come true. And what more to touch your heart is Stanley. It refreshing to have pet in the story who bring Jason and Delilah together. Those who are pet lover might enjoy this book. We get to see previous characters in their role in helping Jason do his best. And we also see a little of what happen with their life and their women. I love seeing previous characters make appearance, one of the things I love about series/trilogies or connection books. Even in sport themes. I can't wait to read Just a Taste, the next installment book.

My pick for this challenge is Fast Women by Jennifer Crusie. I've been reading some of her older books more and her recent books too. I plan to get more of her books when ever I can :)

Nell Dysart end up finding herself a job, working as office manager for Gabe at the McKenna Investigation in the German Village section of Columbus, Ohio. She need it to pay up for the bills since her divorce 18 months earlier. Upon seeing Gabe office, she decided she going to changes the interior of his family 50 years building. And put his life in order. However Gabe didn't like the idea of new changes.

Gabe have been dumped by his ex-wife for the second time, and is in constant argument with his cousin/partner, Riley, about the same tired cases. And his detective agency is wasting time on a blackmail. The only insanity thing that going his way is his new secretary, Nell who helped him see that new changes can make his life better.

Nell discover herself and her abilities as a woman to take a stand. And eventually discover her soul-mate as well.

Fast Women is a second chance of fallen in love again. It is wonderful delightful story that make you giggle and laugh out loud. It also a sexy and fun read - great for the beach :)

I chose to read this book for the TBR Challenge for August, the challenge originally came from the yahoo group that I joined with Darla (please visit her blog). And each months the challenge will be different. Because the name "Julia" contain my name, the book fit the August TBR challenge above this post. I did not have chance to read the book until now. And I know am late to post it, since it is now September, but it better late than never *grin*. Shortly, I will have the TBR Challenge for September at my side bar. Watch for it :)

Julia Wright, love her job at the local library in Serenity Falls. She didn't think anything can go wrong in a nice and quiet place like this...not until her wacky mother, her sister and her little niece all decided to move in and crash her quiet home. And a new "bad boy" guy Luke, decided to come to town in his Harley and shaken her up

Luke Maguire, who left home to get away from his father, never thought he would set a foot back to a dull town in Serenity Falls ever again. But when his father died and left him to take care of the family bar, he was forced to return home. People still remember him as bad boy who was always causing trouble. And Luke never denied or correct them on it. After being away for so long, a stint in the Marines and then deep undercover in the FBI, he dread coming home. However he never thought he would stay, not until he met the feisty librarian Julia. Something about Julia made him want to stay and shake her up a bit and tempted the good girl to be bad.

At first I wasn't sure how to reacted to the book at the beginning. Because Julia's family was bit too much wacky and weird for me, to be honest. I almost put the book aside and pick up another book, but I decided to keep reading. Since I know some of my friends, who always give me good recommendation I trust, seem to like the book. So I want to see what is it they like about it. I love that Luke had two layer of personality side in him. The bad and the good. I love how he not what everyone thoughts he seem to be. And I love that he is the type of character I like to read in heroes. I love that Julia is Liberian with a "good girl" rep but that Luke trying to changed that in her to become bad.

Good Girls Do was a fun and good book. There are humors and delightful moments and the main characters are hot together. But while I enjoyed the book, it is not my favorite book.
