May I Introduce….

Booking Through Thursday

1. How did you come across your favorite author(s)? Recommended by a friend? Stumbled across at a bookstore? A book given to you as a gift?

2. Was it love at first sight? Or did the love affair evolve over a long acquaintance?

- Let go back to the past, shall we? *grin*... Crockett Johnson's The Harold Series, was discover when my 3rd grade teacher gave the class to have a "read a book" time. We usually get to chose a book we want to read and than pick our favorite corner to sit and read the book for an hour or two. This is how I discover "Harold and the Purple Crayon". Johnson became my childhood favorite since. I stumble across Beverly Cleary who wrote "Ramona" series, when we use to have a Book Fair at my old elementary school. Same goes for Judy Blume's The Fudges series. I started to collect their books everytime the school have a Book Fair. And both authors also my childhood favorite. I stumble across L.M. Montgomery who wrote "Anne of the Green Gable", when I had to do a book report for school. I read the first book, did my report and got an "A" on it - yay me! After that, I start to collect the book series and read it for the whole weeks.

My first romance author was Judith McNaught. I came across her book when "Whitney, My Love" was laid on the floor in front me. Something about that book (maybe the bookcover?), made me want to read it. I asked my sisters if I could read it. They felt I was old enough, so they allowed me to read it. That how I discover and collect Judith McNaught's books. A friend of my sister, was given away books she didn't want or need. So she allowed me to take my pick. That how I discover Nora Roberts. She is one of my favorite author today. I discover her JDRobb's books by "accident", and it was funny to me. I never knew Nora wrote under another pen name until I read "Witness in Death" (borrow from library). At the time I didn't even know it was Nora and I kept thinking how similar the authors name are. And the book cover didn't even said "JDRobb aka Nora Roberts" at the time, either. I was shock to find out the true ID of the In Death and so happy that I stumble across it! :)

As for the rest of my favorite authors, I discover them by word of the mouth and recommendation of true friends who is members from JDRobb Yahoo Group (and blogger friends) who I know I can trust. Friends who have similar like in reading taste as I do. Authors like : Suzanne Brockmann, Diana Gabaldon, Kathryn Shay, Shannon Mckenna, Lora Leigh, Elizabeth Phillips, Linda Howard, Anne Stuarts, Julie Garwood (historicals), Janet Evanovich, Christine Feehan (GhostWalker), Lori Foster, Rebecca York (MOON series, Roxanne St. Claire.....etc.

Now that I think about it, I want to thanks Darla ( who gave me good recommendation over the years) and all my other friends who recommend me these authors!

What about you? How did you discover your favorite authors?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Hi Julia! It's funny to see how you stumbled into JDRobb and then discovered she's in fact Nora Roberts. LOL. I'm glad I found you thus, discovering NR. Long live our friendship!

I read "Anne of Green Gables" after I saw a film adaptation on TV! Hehe.

We also had recommended books in school while growing up. I guess I'm pretty lucky that they were books that I enjoyed.

And of course, Nora Roberts. I recently got four of her books, and polished them off in one weekend.

I'm not big on romance novels but I have read one or two good ones - Julie Garwood comes to mind. And my sister devours Nora Roberts.

I really enjoyed reading about your journey to becoming a reader. It was a great way to answer the question. Thanks.

those childhood favorites brought back some nice memories - and they were the authors that started us all on our love affairs with reading, weren't they?

did you ever read the Betsy-Tacy series, or Harriet the Spy? those were my all time childhood faves :)

I somehow do not like Nora Roberts. I have tried.

I read Once and Always by Judith McNaught last week. I simply did not like it as she has not wriiten properly about Indians. She should researched before writing something like that. My first and last read by her.

Ohhh! I loved the Ramona series and Judy Blume! Anne of Green Gable was great as well. I watched the show they did back in the late 80's when I was a kid.

Happy BTT!

Alice- It sure was funny. I didn't even know she wrote JDRobb until later. And I obvious could have known by the authors name LOL. I'm glad that you discover NR and our friendship will grown for long time :) Thanks for being here and commenting :)

Kat - I read Anne of the Green Gables first, before I saw the film. I love the film though. The girl who play Anne in the film, sure does capture her personality like the books did :) What was the 4 books of NR did you just brought? And yeah, it always good to start our reading very young. It help us to explore and expand our reading more. Thanks for being here, Kat. As always :)

Milette - Yep Nora Roberts wrote under "JDRobb". She wrote the In Death, which is darker than her normal lighter one. But it has all of Nora trademark there : humors, great characters, great dialogues..etc. Try it, it good! Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

CJ - thanks for your comment about my journey as reader. It always interesting to me to discover how other readers have discover their love for favorite authors too. I enjoy Julie Garwood too. Mostly her historical one thought. Sadly she isn't writing many historical out there now. But her most recently one has characters from her past historical into her contemporary romance. I think, at lease this is what I heard. Thanks for being here :)

Becca - Childhood favorite sure do brought back memories. In fact it might explain to readers how they started their love for reading *grin*. I never read Betsy-Tacy series, or Harriet the Spy. But I did read Encyclopedia Brown
and enjoy those. It the only mystery I've tried.

Gautami - well we all can not like the same books or authors, couldn't we? It would make the reading more boring if we ALL agree on same things. It always interesting to figure what books/authors capture the readers and which does not. I understand everyone have their own opinion :) I hope maybe someday you can give it another try *grin*. Thanks for being here

Oneluvgurl - Ramona series and Judy Blume was a great authors I read as kid. I discover Anne of Green Gable when I was in highschool. So that pretty much was in 80's time in my days LOL

Jaimie - I truly remember The Mouse andthe Motercycle! They did a movie on that book too :) I hope you truly don't forget your childhood favorite :)

Thanks everyone for stopping by. Please come back again :) Have a nice BTTs and great day/weekend ahead :)

Did you ever read the Emily books that Montgomery wrote? Emily of New Moon is my favorite of all her books.

Bridget said...

Isn't it funny the way some people actually only have a single favorite author, and others have lots?

Also, I've never seen any of the movie adaptations of "Little Women" though it was one of my favorite books ever! I think I was afraid that characters would not look the way I had pictured them ... :-)

Julia said...

Kristy - Thanks for comments. It alwasy interesting to see how readers discover their favorite :)

Jeane - No, I don't think I ever read Emily. I should check it out than :) Thanks for tip

Bridget - I have bunches of favorite authors, but I had to go with few, or else I can be here all night listing them all LOL! I can understand what you mean about being afraid that characters in movies would not be the way we pictured them from the books. I've been disappointed with some of the others movies from the books before....

Thanks for stopping by my blog ladies! I hope you come back again :)
