Booking Through Thursday

Think about your favorite authors, your favorite books . . . what is it about them that makes you love them above all the other authors you’ve read? The stories? The characters? The way they appear to relish the taste of words on the tongue? The way they’re unafraid to show the nitty-gritty of life? How they sweep you off to a new, distant place? What is it about those books and authors that makes them resonate with you in ways that other, perfectly good books and authors do not?

Most of my favorite authors had their own personal, special touch and skills to their writing that bring the pages alive. Different authors are best at what they do, which what make me love them. Remember the following example list are just IMO. I can say when I first discover Harold and the Purple Crayon, I love how the author write the story and leaving us messages at the end by showing us through Harold drawing which bring to life his imaginary object with his purple crayon. And at the end, he knew that no matter where he goes..home is where he want to be. When I discover Judith McNaught's historical I was WOW over her description of her words. She painted each words beautifully and awe inspiring. She have a way for me to love her characters and feel them. And get sweep off of my feet. Julie Garwood had a way to make me fall in love with her historical men and their family. With Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon, I felt like a little girl sitting down and listen to Diana tell me one of the most greatest, wonderful and beautiful story about a family...of all times. It is deep writing and lot of details. But when it come down to it, and you break through all that long pages -- it is only the two main characters and their family that stand out the most and stick with you through out their adventures, love and lives. Suzanne Brockmann have a way with telling a story by weaving three different kind of stories and make it connect to each other into one book (the main characters, WWII story, flashback story, SEALs, FBI..etc). Her two main favorite characters of mine, Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke stand out the most for me. The things they went through with each other just seem real. Nora Roberts have a way with writing family. She also good with dialogues, humors, description, First Chapter opener, characters..etc. Even her In Death series is as strong. Then I like Roxanne St. Claire, Cindy Gerard, Anne Stuart and Lora Leigh because their heroes are alpha Operative, strong and maybe a little dark with a little soft side of them and sexy. These authors write good heroes.

I could go on with more list, but I won't do that to you. it too long *grin*. So see...these are some example of each authors that have their own special skill in what they write the best, IMO. And that why I love them. I am awe at their wonderful writing and hope they never stop. I appreciate the authors more, in their hard work in writing these great stories and made me love them.

I might be more picky then I used to be. I want book to be more writing in depth, characters driven, good plot and mixed of romance and romance suspense together. AND good story :)

I've several favourite authors, and I agree it'd make a long post if I've to list them all down! LOL.

Thanks for bringing up Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood, for I enjoy reading their historical romance. I wish they'll continue to write this genre...

I like character-driven stories too, although I think it's strange worlds that are the most memorable for me. So true - every writer has something special. =)

My list of favorites tends to get really long, too. And I agree - books with strong heroes are the best. Especially heroes who are "strong and maybe a little dark" and sexy - that sounds perfect to me!

It's a difficult thing to begin to write a list of favorites.

I agree, each of my favorite authors excels in one or more of these ways: it would be hard for one to employ all of them.

You're right, Julia. Good plot rules.

Melody - It would have been wonderful if Julie Garwood write more historical. And I love Judith McNaught :)

Jennifer - I think character driven is what made me love the book more. I want to know more about them, not just the plot. And the romance in between.

Jlshall - strong, dark and sexy alpha heroes is what made it for me. They are sexy and perfect to me

Gauatiami - I like to explore with new authors too, which is why I didn't listed all the other authors or it'll would have take all night hehee. It always good try new things :)

Smilinsal - Yep, it is difficult to list all favorite authors. I have a long line of favorite authors, and I want them to know how I appericate them :)
