Time is of Essence

Booking Through Thursday

1. Do you get to read as much as you WANT to read?
(I’m guessing #1 is an easy question for everyone?)

2. If you had (magically) more time to read–what would you read? Something educational? Classic? Comfort Reading? Escapism? Magazines?

No, I don't always get to read as much as I want to anymore. I find myself having to delay the reading to do others stuff lately, then to just sit comfortable in a chair to read. Or even read late at night in bed as I use to do. Maybe part of the reason is that few months ago I had reading slump. Because of that, it affect the reading mood for me lately. Now that my reading slump it gone, I still find it hard to get back to my reading rhythm. I'm not sure why. I start to read less books for each months now. In many years, as long as I could remember - I have always be reading at any given times. I could be in my room reading for many hours until am done with the books. That took me less then 2-3 days to finish it. And then I go on to the next books. I never stopped for a long period of times before I jump to read another books. I jump to the next book, after next and after next. Now that rhythm isn't going like that anymore. I think maybe I exhausted myself, enough to lose the energy to read like I use to . Hey, after all...I have been reading since I was kid. And now, I'm adult. The next possible reason is that when my niece Trish move in with us, she is always taken me out somewhere three times a weeks. It's been a year since she lived with us and we get into habit of just gone somewhere (mall, grocery shopping, movies, restaurant..etc). So I started to read less. Which explain why my 50 Challenge Books reading is less each months. Now that she had moved back home, I'm trying to get back to my reading. And so far I think it working...keep your finger crossed!

To answer the second questions, If I had more time to read then I would like to re-read my old favorite books. Especially those that are part of an on going series books. I'm a huge fan of reading series books, because I like to visit old favorite characters, and remember them as if they're fresh in my mind. Sometime when there an upcoming books releasing, I get into habit of re-reading the previous books so that I be refresh of the books before I start reading the latest one. Because of the situation, mention above, I don't get the times to re-read old favorite books anymore. But I'm hoping to change all that and make the times to do re-read...unless if that going to delay my reading other books that are new and waiting for me to read from my TBR pile

How about you? Ever have the time to read as much as you want? And if you had the time, what would you read?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Julia, I'm glad you got out of your reading slump! I miss those days when you chatted with me about the books you read... I was so in awe with you because you were able to finish a book in 2-3 days' time! But I understand that fatigue does takes away all the reading pleasure, so do rest well!

I wish I've more time to catch up on my TBR pile... they're creeping higher and higher that I fear one day, these piles will collapse! LOL.

It's funny but the older I get the less time I devote to re-reading old favourites - even though I'm collecting more of them. But I keep thinking that I'll die before I read all the books I haven't even read once :)

Hi Julia, I'm glad you're getting out of the reading slump now. I'm sure you'll get into the rhythm once again. I also can't wait for the opportunity to read together with you and Melody again. I really miss that.

I'm kinda lazy to read through the ones I have left for the challenge (8 more books) because I wanted to read others but I think I should follow through and complete them. Only 8 books.....

Melody - I too, really miss those days when we use to chatted about books! IT was fun then. I wish to go back and finish reading books in 2-3 days again. Maybe if, when we get back to our joint-reading together (with Alice too of course) I might be able to finish it in 2-3 days again *grin*. My TBR piles are getting creeper too. It piling up way high!

Bernadette - True, when we get older we have less time to read it then we were when as kids. I love to read old favorite books from a series. What is your favorite?

Alice - Thanks about the reading slump. I hope to get that reading rhythm again. And you can jump in on joint-reading with me and Melody anytimes! We always welcome you :) I think you can do it! Read those 8 books!

Thanks everyone for visiting my blog. I wish everyone a Happy Thursday!

It's funny but I don;t think I have come across a single blog that says they have enough time to read or wold want less. All of us want more. I have a huge tbr pile that I would love to get to. I plan on taking a few days off at Christmas and working on that and spending some time with the fam.

I know what it's like to have a block of time when you don't read; I'm glad you're past that time. No one has enough reading time, and we all could use more to read what we like. Happy BTT!

Glad you're past your reading slump. That happens to everyone.

Reading slumps are the worst - it really can kill your mood to read. When that happens to me, it can take awhile before something gets me out of it. Glad you are over yours.

Aw, I hope you get your groove back. I hate reading slumps but I think they happen to us all.

And times like festivals take away all my reading time!

Here is my BTT post

When I've read as quickly as you described when you were in a rhythm, I lose the essence of the book. I like to dwell in the characters/setting/lesson for a bit before moving on to another. So, maybe a slump could be a good thing!

If I had extra time, I'd go back through some favorites again too.

Glad you are out of your reading slump. I hate being in them but find that they happen a couple of times a year.

I have occasional reading slumps too. I think it's my brain telling me it needs a break. I'm glad you are finding your way out of your reading slump.

I would re-read a lot of my old favorites, too. When each Harry Potter book came out, I would re-read the entire series up to that point! Except for number seven. I think I didn't do it that time.

That's a good point about re-reading...I didn't think of that. I never re-read books because I say I don't have the time!
