Only Human by Eileen Wilks (Anthology from Lover Beware)

(Paranormal Romance) * * * * 1/2

This book is an anthology with 4 authors (Christine Feehan, Katherine Sutcliffe, Fiona Brand and Eileen Wilks). But I pick this book up to read Eileen Wilks's Only Human story to get better feel of her's on going werewolf series. Thanks to Darla, she explained to me that, even though Only Human is the first written book, I weren't missed anything if I read Tempting Danger first since that is the official beginning of the series. So while am waiting for Tempting Danger, I figure I'll just read Only Human anyway, until it get here :) Here is the website: Eileen Wilks

Then when the mood strike, I will go back to Lover Beware and read the other 3 authors from that book :)

In Only Human Lily Lu was a promoted detective from San Diego police department, who was called to the scenes of the murder crime. Because Lily want to find justice, she was determined to solve this crime, even if it mean she have to work with Rule. And she does not like to work with civilians either.

Rule is the prince of Clan Nokolai, a werewolves who had been, in the last few years, mixing and mingling with normal human on regular events from San Diego to Hollywood to Washington, D.C. The major have asked for his assistance to Lily investigation, since he knew more about intimate knowledge of Lupus, their culture and habits.

Lily families objection to her work made her grow as detective she wanted to be. And then there is cultural differences between their species that they need to overcome, even though their attraction is intense. But Lily and Rule work together to solved the crimes and hope to solve not only to bring down justice but work their attraction to each other.

The reason I gave this 4 half stars is because the story were short, although we do get an idea what to expect from the series. I really enjoy this book (thanks Darla!) and hope to continue the series. And I can't wait to read Tempting Danger today! (update Jan 31 - Yep Darla, I got it today, thanks again!) .

Even still today, I listen to some old music that were my favorite at the time. And always get surprise when I hear songs I haven't heard in such long time. Maybe I'm just stuck in the 80's musics ;) When I put my hair down and and let the 80's child in me out, it can be fun LOL ! But I enjoy listening to today music too, but very picky with it.

TBR

Booking Through Thursday

1- How many unread books do you have in your house, right now? (Your own books, that is--not ones that belong to other family members--and not counting things like school books, if you have them.) Clearly, an estimate will do.

- I say about around 85-90 books are unread

2- To the best of your recollection, what is the OLDEST unread book in your collection? How long has it been waiting?

- Lisa Gardner "The Perfect Husband" have been in my TBR piles for the longest time. I think I have had it since for 5 years now ;)

3- Do your TBR books (that's "To Be Read," if you didn't know) haunt you, make you feel guilty that you haven't read them yet? Oh, and library books don't count . . . not unless you absolutely don't have ANY other unread book except what you checked out last Tuesday.

- Yep it always haunted me everyday - days and night ;) Sometime I felt like it planning a conspiracy against me while I sleep, for not reading them any sooner. And sometime I felt it whisper to me to fight with them, there for I be holding my secret weapon beside me when I sleep..... LOL ;)

In conclusion - yes I do feel guilty :)

Let's keep it simple today:

What are you reading right now? (Well, obviously, you're reading THIS right now, perhaps I should have been more clear. What book(s) are you in the process of reading? (grin))

- Right now I am reading the debut novel Tropical Getaway by Roxanne St. Claire. This book is when we first met Max, the character from Kill Me Twice and Thrill Me to Death . I mention it in my previously post that these two books are an "Bullet Catcher" series :)

- Then hopefully I'll be able to read the books that I listed on my sidebar. I know I delay reading them but it because I want to read the books from the library first so that I can return them. Then read the books that I brought.

(Romance suspense) * * * * * stars
Max Roper, left the DEA and followed his best buddy, Dan to the security and personal protection business as a Bullet Catcher, was assigned to guard Corinne Peyton, a widow to a billionaire husband William Peyton, from her stepson Billy. In the past his relationship with Cori have been tragic and painful that when he said goodbye to her, he tried to block out her in his life. But he never thought he'll be the one to be assigned to guard her.

Corinne - hired a bodyguard but never thought he would be the man from her past. Her love and desire for Max still exist even though she want to forget. But she will never forgive him for what he did to her father, and blamed on him. After the sad and painful goodbye - she end up marrying William who have always been there for her. And when he died, she was devastated. And now she surprise to see Max again. But she hired bodyguard for a reason and she needed him.

Max assignment was to not only guard her but to also question whether William die of natural death or did Corinne murder him for his money. Then suddenly, danger is lurking and Max knew he need to find who the threat is. And not only Corinne and he investigating together but to prove it was even harder.

The emotion between them spread out and they get closer. Then Corrine find out the reason behind her father, and was shock to learn the truth. The romance began to get sizzle hot, passion and very intense. And the closer they get to finding the killer, the closer the killer will get to find Corrine before they lose the chance at life together.

This is the second book to the "Bullet Catcher" series. Max have originally been seen in Tropical Getaway , her debut novel and also Kill Me Twice (book 1 of the series).

I was looking forward to read Thrill Me to Death (book 2 of series), after reading the first book. Roxanne St. Claire have not disappointed me yet. Her "Bullet Catcher" are so far, thrilling, passion, fun with plenty of action and suspense. You get to know the "Bullet Catcher" team like they're part of your family. The men are very strong alpha with wide variety of personality and sense of humor. The writing are deeply in depth and easy to read, and characters driven.

And even though it was easy to figure out the killer, for me, I love the book and I highly recommend you to read it. Here the link to her website :

Born In Death by JDRobb * * * * 1/2

At the beginning we see Eve and Roarke attending a childbirth class with Mavis. The funny scene in this made me laugh since I grew to know how Eve and Roarke would reacted to the whole childbirth deal. There are quite a few laugh-out-loud moments.

Then the murder began when two accountants young couple, Natalie and her fiance Bick, who were found murdered separately in their own home. They both worked in accounting firm of as an accountant at the firm of Sloan, Myers and Kraus. They uncovered a secret that causes their death.

And while Eve work to investigation, with the help from the gang, to find the killer, Mavis's pregnant friend, Tandy Willowby, suddenly disappeared. And Mavis begged Eve to help her find her friend. And the friend disappearance was too close to home for Roarke, too hard for him to ignore.

And while struggling to find the killer and solving the crimes, Eve had to coordinated Mavis baby shower as well. And even if she want to run away from it, Peabody won't let it happen. When it came to Mavis's birth of the baby, it was a sweet and nice moment without it being over done. I really enjoy seeing Mavis birth of her's baby finally. I know am just majority of the people who was excited to finally see Mavis baby born while other would whether see "someday" (of course not now) when Roarke and Eve finally give birth of their baby :) I just think that Mavis is one of the characters who so close of family to me that, I would treated her the same as I would with Eve and Roarke. And even with the rest of the gang.

I like that three thing was happening at once, in Born In Death . The murder of two young accountants and engaged couple, the disappearance of Mavis's friend Tandy and Mavis's baby born. So the book was enjoyable to read with all that happening together making the book as whole - a good read for me. I also would like to add in that one of the scenes I love was that during the case, Roarke was being question about using the information to uncovered the case to further his own business. There were strong moments of seeing his reaction that I felt his anger through the pages. And his confronting and discussion to Eve about it, just felt real.

Nora always seem to know how to make scenes and emotion come alive, that it become realistic across the pages, in an fiction story.

Love the book, love the characters! Can't wait to read the next In Death book :)
