Cover Goodness: Holly Lane by Toni Blake

Toni Blake has been one of my favorite author, ever since I read her first Destiny series One Reckless Summer three years ago. Of course I have to thanks my friend BJ who recommended me to read Blake's book, which I delay reading until she surprise me with a gift Letters to a Secret Lover in my mailbox. Its a stand alone historical romance. I knew that I'm going to love Blake's Destiny series after I read the first book and anticipated for the next installments to come each years. Three of Destiny series books are already out; One Reckless Summer, Sugar Creek and Whisper Falls (I love the titles and covers art for each books!). And while I do love all three books, Whisper Falls is my favorite. Very close up to One Reckless Summer. I love reading this series because Toni have a way to make me love each characters and made the story emotionally moving that it tugs at the heartstrings. It heartwarming, touching, inspired, tension and sexy hot! It set in a small town community and it has a warm homecoming feel to it. highly recommend this series!

Today is official release street date of Toni Blake's fourth book, HOLLY LANE. And this is Sue Ann and Adam story. I have waited...WAITED....for a long time for their book to come out. And I'm so happy to say I went out and got a copy of the book! And I'm not embarrassed to say that when I stood by the bookshelf at Barnes and Noble and holding HOLLY LANE in my tiny hand, I did a happy snoopy dance right there and then *grin*. Of course no one was around, but I would still do happy dance anyway. I even swing the book around in my hand and raise up both hand and wave while doing a 'Oh Happy Day' dance too *grin*. I am too excited and looking forward to reading this book soon! This book is out today, so go grab a copy! It highly recommend!

And every minute he have with her, he wonder if maybe Kyra isn't as bad a she seem to be, because he have fallen for her. But he still decided to go through with his plan carry out the hit and find out where she hidden the money.

I think this is an unusual kind of heroe and heroine that we don't often see. At lease for me. Both had a job that isn't honorable. Kyra a con and thief. Reyes is dangerous hit man. They both enjoy what they do and if they took a break, both felt they've miss doing their job. This seem like these characters aren't likable or heroine/hero worthy. BUT as you get to know them inside and out, you will be able to understand them a lot more and know the reason why they do what they do. You may not like it but you might find that you care for them to want to root for their HEA ( I know I did!). And when they are together, spark fly and sizzle the pages. Together, Kyra and Reyes are compatible who stay true to themselves and didn't change from who they are. I can see why some people said the book are dark. Because it obvious is. It was a little gritty and raw and even have a powerful emotions. There was one scene where it was unexpected and intense. And it surprise me when it happen. I thought it was well done for Ava Gray to have that gut to write that scenes. And I love the ending!

You will meet the secondary characters who also will have their own story next. I was intrigue by them and wanting to know what happen to them in the past before they end up doing what they currently do now. Especially when the secondary guy seem to be dark one with bit of soft side in between, IMO.

I REALLY did enjoy reading this book from beginning to end. It kept me turning the pages. It actions packed, raw and gritty. Romance and emotions. I love that the book balance everything. This the first book I read by Ava Grey and it won't be my last! And I don't think you'll regret reading it! Looking forward to read the 2nd book Skin Tight, next!

Let me first start by saying that this was one of the review I have been delay posting. I read the book on the first week of Jan 2010, draft it on Jan 10 and then re-edited in March. I'm just now posting it today (yes it took me 3 months). I admit when I got a copy of Bed of Roses, I didn't know what to expected. Because while I did enjoy Vision In White, it wasn't a favorite. And so I read Bed Of Roses with high hope that it'll be better. I love Nora Roberts' books but there will be some books by her that are more a favorite than the other, right?

I have to say I like Bed Of Roses so much better than Vision In White. Probably because I love theme where hero and heroine known each other all of their life and are practically family. And then they became lover later. And plus Emma is such a romantic dreamer at heart, and that reminded me of myself at a young age always dreaming about romance. There were more intimacy, more dialogues with great quoting and built up relationship between Emma and Jack. The intimacy between them were sensual and sizzling hot. I love how after their passionate kisses, they try to make sense of their feeling for one another and things got complicated. For Jack because he never been a commitment guy and Emma always long for lifetime "Happy Ever After", love. The kind that last forever. And Emma is a friend of his best friend's sister, so Jack felt that Emma is "hand off" whether he honorary or not. Plus they're practically "family". And Emma felt beside their being "family" she thought Jack had feeling for someone close to them and it was one of their "No Dating" rules thing that Emma thought is no no. I like that Emma didn't given in so easily after she and Jack had this one argument. And she waited when she ready to forgive. It was good scenes to see Jack grovel but I felt so sorry for him afterward. I thought Emma and Jack make a good couple. I think Nora made them stay true to their characters, and I like that.

It was interesting to see how Emma love to do what she does best - her job. We get to see how she arrange flowers, prepare them and then display them in the wedding and the reception set room for their clients. We get an idea how many hours it take to have job doing flowers for wedding, and I gotta say that it seem pretty exhausting but fun. I love it that we see more interact and connection with the previous characters. We get to see how stronger the women friendship are and also see how the previous couple, Mac and Carter, have been doing after their story are told. And we get glimpse/hint of who will be next couple in the next books. I especially want to learn more about the guy who own a car shop. He seem to be the type of guy I like to read about - YUM! *grin*.

Bed of Roses was a romantic sweet story. It was more relationship built up and fun. Face pace reading and enjoyable. Friendships, loves and happiness was well blend in together in the book. I'm looking forward to read the third book Savor the Moment to come out soon.

As it should be known by now, Linda Howard current books have been either a hit or miss for me lately. I mostly prefer her older books and wish there more stories like them to read. I can not tell you enough how much I highly recommend readers to try reading Howard's older books. You will enjoy them, I promise. I use to auto buy Howard's books like crazy! So after few years of hit and miss books, I decided then to just buy all of the new books when it come out in paperback instead. I still buy and read all of her books thought, just that they are not auto buy as the way I used to do with her older books. But I was in for a major surprise when I picked up Death Angel in paperback. I did not expected this book to turn out to be good! It is not perfect but it is good than the most of the recent one I've read before this book. This is one of the books I've delayed reviewing since last year. I've started drafting it on December 3rd 2009. So I'm sure I finish the book on the last week of November 2009. And is now just re-edited it and published it today.

Drea Rousseau is said to be a beauty, self-absorbed, bimbo blonde woman who used men and gets what she want. That is how she ends up becoming the mistress of a major drug trafficker lord Rafael Salinas. But what they don't know is that she is smart and use it to her advandage. Things were going well and she had settle into Rafael life and his money until one day he award his cold blooded assassin (for a job well done) to have his five hours spent with her, as his request. Shocked and upset, she plan a revenge against Rafael by playing the "dumb blonde" act, stealing his money and walk away with it. She travel around and put to plan to hide the money. But things went wrong and not as according to plan. And what make it even worse is that Rafael had order the assassin to go after her.

Most through out the book, it shown Drea on the road and plan step by step of her get away and how to hide and retrieve the money. But when horrific accident happen something made her change to a different person. And not only that, she encounter the sexy assassin again. The same assassin whom Rafael have thrown her into for his award. But Drea can not help but remembered of that last five hours of sizzle, steamy night she had with Simmon. When he caught up with her, things changed and she find him hauling along with her on the road. Drea feeling soon developed and she is left wondering what to do for she is fallen for him as well.

I'm gonna have to stop here or else I fear I might spoils something. I admit that at first I wasn't sure if am going to like Drea because of the way she used men to get what she want in order to survived. But she did redeem herself and that made me like her after. I was engrossed from the very first page until the end. Except maybe I felt the step by step of heroine plan while on the road was a bit too much info. But it is a good, sexy, intense book. It is darker and had a subtle paranormal elements that seem to be right in place to bring hero and heroine together and give us reader a satisfying love and deep heartfelt emotions. There is one scene, where its may seem unbelievable for some readers but it definitely a good scene to me, IMO(I admit at first I thought it was weird but now I think it make sense to have it there). Without it, we weren't have seen the change in both Drea and Simon, again IMO. That scene show Simon deep emotion feeling toward Drea. I do think readers should read this book, I don't think you be disappointed :)

I hope for more books like this one from Linda Howard soon!

Red's Series Books / The Rouge by Kate Angell

In the past, since I blogged, I've posted many "Rec'd Series Books" here. But for a long months now, I been lacking on keeping update to recommend series books lately. So now, I hope to be able to find time to post recommendation here when I can remember it. Those who have been following my series books recommendation, I hope to continue to give you many more "new to me authors" books to read :)

I always love to read series books. Many who know me, would know most of my books on the shelf are all mostly series/trilogies books. So am always on a look out for more "new to me authors" who write series books. I was excited when I discover one....

During this summer of 2007, I discover an author who is new to me. I picked up "Curveball" by Kate Angell, after I heard one of my favorite author Lori Foster raves about this author. I notice it was baseball theme, and while I'm not baseball fan I picked it up and brought it anyway. I found out later, after browsing at her website that there is another book before "Curveball". So I decided to get a copy of the first book, "Squeeze Play". I normally don't like to read books out of order, so I would go and buy atlease the first book to start. I'm happy to say I truly enjoy reading it. And now, after reading "Curveball", I'm looking forward to read more of the Rogues series.

Kate Angell's baseball, The Rogues series is what Susan Elizabeth Phillips's football is to The Chicago Star series (I love SEP's books!). Kate also write three romance stories into one books. It is a hot sexy romance comedies with charming, delightful, sizzling and funny characters that you will love and enjoy. Kate capture the essence of the baseball boys of the summer, the fun and the hot fling so well that you can imagine it all happen all at once. I find myself laughing plenty of time and loving each characters. And who can't help but fall in love with "The Bat Pack" gangs: Psycho, Chaser, Romeo. They put smiles on my face.

Okay I gush enough, and I feel embarrassed when I do. A whole lot of my sentences don't make sense LOL. I hope everyone give Kate Angell a chance. You might enjoy it as much as I did. It a fun book, easy to read and not a long pages reading. It the book to read for the summer. Or during baseball season. There is only two books that is available right now. The third book will be out in April of next year. But Kate had said there be more books coming. Below, is the titles of books to read in order. Rec'd series books/ Susan Mallery: The Buchanans

Today, I'm recommend Susan Mallery's The Buchanans series. I actually won the first two books from one of the yahoo group that I subscribe to. And was excited once I got it in my mailbox. I read both book and really like it. It left me with good impression of the family that I decided to buy the third book sizzling (which came out in Jan. 2007) on my own. I will pick up the next book Tempting in July 2007. What I like about the series is that they are funny, sexy, charming, heartwarming and hot. It make you laugh and cry. And you will love the family as much as I do too. The men are very hot and you will love them. From what I read, I like the interaction with each characters to one another (yes even when they are crazy people) One of the main things I like to see in my reading. And humors AND foods are involved in the stories of the books too. *grin*.

The Buchanans series, is about a family, live in city of Seattle, who has and owns a number of restaurants that built the family empire. Each family member are unique, dynamic and full of depth. As their stories are told, they will go through danger, mystery and romance.

Rec'd trilogy books/ Sandy Blair: Castle Blackstone series

Sandy Blair is one of the Scottish historical author who always feature great Highlander alpha heroes with a paranormal twist! each of the The Castle Blackstone series books had humors that would make you laugh through out the pages. There is balance of actions, humors, excitement and adventure. She can take two likable characters together and make it work. The characters would pull to your heart string and make you love them. Their passion and the journey they travel to...would lead you to a wonderful place of bless.

And all these things I said above,are the reason why I like her books *grin*. I was recommend this book from a friend who love historical books. I delay reading The Castle Blackstone series because it not my cup of teas anymore. Yes, I admit it. There are others historicals writer that I still read, but just won't pick up a "new author to me" anymore. Unless words of mouths buzz about an authors that might change my mind on their books. But after a years of my friend nagging *grin*, I decided to give Sandy Blair a go..and I'm so glad I read it. The series is good.

She also have two non-Kilt book that are good too, which is stand alone. They are:

1. How to Marry a Duke(anthology PB Feb. 2005 released)
2. A Highlander for Christmas(PB release in Oct. 2, 2007)


Sandy Blair is the author to keep an eyes on. Don't miss it! I recommend you to read it. You can always count on her to make you laugh, smile and love them. I know I did.

Yes - I don't read lot of historical anymore since it normally not my cup of tea. But some historical books I do continue to read, because I enjoy them. Sandy Blair is one of them. She is a wonderful, delightful and has a warm sense of humors. Very generous to heart woman. I've been quite a fan of Cindy Gerard's BodyGuard series when a friend recommend me these series. I started with To the Edge and then pick up the rest from there. And now I'm on book #3, and I hope to be able to read this together with a friend. again. I enjoy the first two books that I read and hope to continue to reading the rest before or during this summer. There are already 5 books out and the latest book #6 will be release in June 2007.

The BodyGuard is the men and women of "E.D.E.N" Securities, Inc. They not only guard you your body but steal your heart and full fill your deepest desired. We have three sibling who were a Former Special Forces, a Former Force Recon, a Former Secret Services and a Former Army Ranger. Ethan, Dallas, Eve and Nolan take their assignment seriously. And nothing too big or dangerous that they couldn't handle would be difficult for them. Along the way, two new members joined in the E.D.E.N Securities, Inc. and the gangs used their special skills and intelligence to service their country and make sure the securities are safe.

Each sibling have their own stories told, and when it come to relationship they not only fall in love but protected them with their body. You would fall in love with the heroes/heroine and wish them a HEA too.

series are fill with actions, adventure, intense, emotion, sizzling hot and romance. It easy pace read with twist and turn. A good book to read to escape :)

Rec'd series books/ Susan Elizabeth Phillips

It been a while since I recommend any series book. And I'm a HUGE fan of series books. So I thought I'll changed that and post it today. If you have been following my blog, you'll see I have posted 6 different recommendation by authors since last year. You can check them all out by clicking the archive months on the right side bar of this blog :)


Chicago Star Series by Elizabeth Phillips


First let me say that the first non-Chicago Star stand alone book I try by Susan, did not interested me. I stopped in the middle of the book then. I thought it might be the book or the mood that I was in at the time. Since mood play a big part in my reading habit. So I try another of hers stand alone book. And got the same reaction I did with the first book. And so I thought that SEP's books wasn't for me. Lucky my friend Jill, had changed that theory for me. She recommended me to try SEP's Chicago Stars series. I think she knew I was big fan of series book and decided to get me to read them. Knowing that I have been disappointed with two stand alone that I've try so far, I was skeptical about reading the third after two strike. But I decided to give it a go. After all there is saying that a third time is always the charm..right? And what do you know....it work! The first book from the series, It Had to Be You grab me from the first page and I was entertained through out the whole book. From there I started to collect them all and read the whole series. So glad I decided to read them, thanks you Jill!

The Chicago Stars Series aren't just always perfect at first. The heroes may be mean and jerk or been too rough on the heroine (or visa versa with heroine too) but both learn a lesson about themselves and from each others. And the relationship grow as they get closer and redeem themselves. There are plenty of laugh and good dialogue's that I always seem to quotes to my friends all the time. The heroes are a yummy football stars, bad boy with attitude but yet soft when they met the heroine...well almost ;) They can be sweet at a time. And wonderful, great cast of characters! I really love these series and hope reader would read them. I know that some of the heroes in the books (maybe 3 of them) aren't football stars but more like a close relation to the football stars characters. But they're good too. And please don't stop reading if and when you get to the scenes where you think it really going to happen and you're ready to throw it across the wall. It is NOT what it seem to be. And SEP had said, why not trust her on the writing? Just keep reading :)

Rec'd series books / Christine Feehan

I admit - I'm one of the few people who didn't read too far from Feehan's Dark series. It became popular today, and more new people are starting to reconized her everyday. Feehan's have so many different series books for everyone to enjoy, lucky for that I have enjoy her other works much better :)

I would like to recommend one of my favorite series written by her.
The GhostWalkers series are about a group of military men, who was taken in for science experiment. Things went wrong and they escape. They later learn that there are other people like them, who have different special ability and may harms themselves or the other innocence. So their mission was to find them quickly before any damaged can happen. And each men work together with the heroines as equal partner, which give them both strengths and abilities in order to survive.

The story have plenty of actions and romance. It is thrilling and powerful. It has paranormal elements sci-fic to it. Humors and intense scenes. It is a great series! The order the books come in are:

Trilogy Rec'd Books/Jacey Ford & Beverly Brandt

I'm going to recommend a trilogy books this time. Today I recommend Jacey Ford. She is an romantic suspense writer. Jacey Ford is also a pseudonym name to Beverly Brandt -which is lighter side of her's contemporary comedies romance. I was hooked into Jacey Ford Partner in Crimes trilogy when my dear friend Darla recommend her books to me. And it is a very pack action series with strong heroines. I love strong heroines in my books *grin*. I have read so many books with heroines not being so strong but yet likable anyway, but this was great change :)

Partner in Crimes is about three friends, former FBI agents, who left their job to run a Partner in Crimes business together. And each women get their own HEA stories for each installments. You will met Raine, Aimee and Daphne as they solve each mystery and along the way, fall in loves. They're lot of fun, actions, romance, emotional depth and strong heroines who kick butt. It sorta reminded me of the TV show "Alias", which had ended their season series finale this year. As you read, you can't help but applause to the heroines and the risk they took to save not only themselves but others too. It really a worthy read! :)

I haven't read under Beverly Brandt yet - But Darla assure me it is good. So I might try this soon.

Rec'd series book/Diana Gabaldon

My third recommendation will be The Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon. I have alway felt like am actually sitting down on the floor and listening to Gabaldon telling me one of the greatest story in history. It tell the story of Jamie Fraser, a Scottish Highlander from the 18 century and his wife who is time traveler. It is filled with great adventures with romance and wonderful family. You will grown to love each characters, emotionally and phycially. And everything that happen to them, well get to you. The story is well written and it is written very much detailed. And told in first person.

I admit the first time I read it, I couldn't get into it. I almost gave up. But after over 100 and + pages, when Claire travel in 18 century - thing get better. Some people stop reading because the first Chapter or + pages were so slow to them. Other stopped because it was too much detailed or couldn't get into the story. Or the fact that the book itself is thick. Whatever the reason, don't stop reading it. It get better as the story move on. Each books will bound to slow you down but some of the most memorable scenes are shown in between and it very touching to the heart. It pull my heart for this couple and family. So please pick up the first book "Outlander" today and read it. You won't regret it :)

Rec'd Book and What I'm Reading

Shadow of the Moon by Rebecca York / Silent Water by Jan Coffey



My next reading will be Shadow of the Moon by Rebecca York. I usually love reading York's Moon series, werewolves story. They had all kind of cool action going on. Such as Demon against wizard, werewolf with witches..and so on. Each werewolf brothers and friends get their own stories told. I managed to get one of my friend, Angela from England to read the first book and she love it. Since the hero in the first book was P.I. The heroes are yummy and you weren't want to miss reading about them. And yes Melody,(*grin*) it is part of series :) Thank to my friend Darla, who got me hooked to these series. I weren't have discover werewolves story *wink* :)

While you wait for me to finish with Shadow of the Moon so that I can blog my thoughts on it.... I thought I recommend a stand alone book this time.


I recommend Silent Water by Jan Coffey. It is great book if you like romantic suspense. Actually it more of suspense in this book. It is a edge to the seat face pace read. Suspense and action. Jan Coffey is pseudonym of husband and wife writing team Jim and Nikoo McGoldrick. Here the Blurb I find at the back of the book for Silent Water :

Rec'd series books/Suzanne Brockmann

The next series by author I like to recommend is Suzanne Brockmann. Suz website! She write story about Navy SEALs teams (Troubleshooter series and Tall,Dark and Dangerous series.

The Troubleshooter series are consisted of more in depth writing, with 3 stories weaves together making it one brilliant book! It had more actions,more emotional depth,humors and hot intense sexual scenes in them. I enjoy this series and loves all the heroes in the team. You going to grow to love each characters/couples as their relationship develops in each installments. You even see them again, after they had their HEA( Happy Ever After). I love this series because of the way Brockmann weaves in 3 different stories and connected/tying them together so well. I also love getting into the head of heroes and their emotions. And I love that each heroes had their own personality, for us all to loves.

My favorite heroes is alway going to be Sam Starrett(Sam and Alyssa story "Gone Too Far"). It something about him that make me loves him all over again . He is honorable man, with southern bad boy images. He funny and loves his Alyssa. He take action with out any hesistation. His background life was such sad and tortures for him that you can't help but love him.

And I also like Max ("Over the Edge"), the FBI guy with big heart. Very sweet and he protect his woman. He love snoopy PJ (lol)...

While you're waiting for me to post my comments for Even Vampires Get the Blue I thought to post an recommend books. As you may not know, I love to read series books. And I have lot of collection of them from my favorite authors. Such authors like Suzanne Brockmann, JDRobb, Diana Gabaldon, Rebecca York, Janet Evanovich, Cindy Gerard, Tara Janzen...etc.

I will start and recommend you JDRobb's book "In Death" series. They're great book If you like futuristic book with crimes and bad ass cop heroine and very sexy hot hero..then pick this book up. As you read the series, you'll met the gang who is not just a wonderful friend but great group of family. You'll see their relationship/friendship developed throughout out each installments. You'll enjoy this book as they also have humors, intense and joyful emotions. Read it. You won't regret it :) JDRobb is also the same author who wrote under Nora Roberts too :)
